ABOUT THE FARM

We started our little berry patch while taking care of our mom, and our dad told us he always wanted blueberry fields his former cow pastures. 

The first year we had customers there was only a bucket in the middle of a field! 

We have since added ‘The Berry Hut’ a place to cool down to enjoy refreshments, and a native flower meadow has matured into a valuable habitat for butterflies and bees.

ABOUT ME

My name is Jennifer, and you’ll meet me when you visit The Berry Hut during blueberry season.

I was born in Tunkhannock, then grew up for a few years in North Carolina where my momma was born, then returned to graduate from Tunkhannock High School. 

I started life as an illustrator with pencils, paints and brushes but my career quickly led to computers and I enjoyed the combination of traditional art, creative writing, and technology. 

I’ve taught private art classes, worked with the Dietrich Theater on a few children’s programs over the years and volunteered to teach wildlife learning experiences at what later became Vosburg State Park. 

I started growing flower crops and helping with the berry fields during my free time almost ten years ago.

And here we are today. I never thought a blueberry patch could mean so much to me. Never thought that mowing with a zero-turn, fixing fences, and pouring slushies would be my dream job, but when you hear that engine fire up and turn toward a field, and you see the relaxed faces of families smiling at each other after a day laughing, you realize how small the chances were that you’d end up here, and deep gratitude wells up.

 

MY MISSION

My mission is to provide an old-fashioned blueberry picking experience.

I’m constantly thinking of any way to make you experience easier, happier, and more comfortable, so you can make wonderful memories with your family & friends. 

I appreciate (and need!) patrons who support us by buying extra, but I’m proud that it is possible for any family to have hours of old-fashioned fun for the price of a few pounds of berries - and have healthy food to take home at the end of their adventure! 

EASIER TO PICK? 

I am also proud of our accessibility for guests with young children or mobility issues.

The bathroom is still a porta potty, but our field is somewhat flat, and the gate is very close to the parking area. Strollers are welcome. 

There is shade, and the Berry Hut offers an air-conditioned space at the end of your adventure, or anytime you need to cool off.

Many who can’t pick on other farms are delighted to be able to pick blueberries again on High Horizons. It’s pretty cool to see.

There is always deep shade in the morning, lasting into early afternoon, and I’ve put out comfy chairs in the field for a moment of reflection, a cool drink, and a place to rest …away from everything. 

And that’s the point isn’t it? A place to escape, a place to rest, that’s the dream, stop by to share that dream with us every summer.
